Rampage Training Day: Master Mobile Device Navigation
Our Rampage Training & Outride Day is designed to empower you with the skills to use your mobile device (preferably Android) as an effective navigation tool during your riding adventures. This comprehensive training day is divided into two sessions, with both theoretical and practical components to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter.
Session 1: Theory and App Setup (7:30 AM - 11 AM)
The morning session focuses on the essentials of device setup, mounting, and a comprehensive understanding of various apps. This will include:
- Device Setup and Mounting: We'll guide you on how to prepare your mobile device for navigation use, including the best practices for mounting it securely to your bike.
- GPX Files Viewer Apps: We delve into the world of GPX files and how they contribute to successful navigation. We'll discuss their functionality, setup, and demonstration on several popular apps, such as:
- Locus Maps
- GPX File Viewer
- OsMand Maps
- Digital Roadbook Apps: Learn the nuts and bolts of digital roadbook apps, their setup, and functionality. Apps we'll cover include:
- Roadbook Rally App
- Rally Navigator
- Piste Roadbook Reader
During this session, we will use demo routes to provide hands-on experience with these tools and apps.
Session 2: Practical Outrides with GPX and Roadbook Files (11am to Afternoon)
In the late morning, we transition to the practical application of the skills learned in Session 1. This session will comprise of two hands-on riding experiences, catering to varying preferences and skill levels.
- Short Outride (8 km): This short test ride within the neighborhood is the perfect opportunity to familiarize yourself with the use of apps and digital roadbooks.
- Long Outride (Approximately 180 km): Starting and ending at Pallet Padstal, this ride offers a more challenging navigation experience on an open, offroad track. The terrain includes dirt roads, jeep tracks, and some single track. While the ride is not overly difficult, it provides ample opportunity to practice your newly acquired navigation skills over a longer distance.
Both rides aim to provide a practical understanding of how to use apps for navigation on your mobile device.
Join us for this Rampage Training Day and take the first step towards mastering mobile navigation for your riding adventures!
